How do I apply for assistance?
To receive financial assistance, you need to complete two steps – open a bank account with a Canadian bank and apply for assistance .
1. Opening a bank account
To open a bank account, you will need a passport and a temporary residence status document – IMM1442. This document is considered to be a document on the final date of stay (visitor record), study permit (study permit) or work permit (work permit). In the case of Ukrainians, this may be a work permit, which will be issued at the airport upon arrival. The IMM1442 document must have a mark located in Canada according to CUAET.
Next, when applying for financial assistance, you will need to provide an account number, a branch transit number, and an institution number. Read more about how to open a bank account in Canada here.
Most banks will require a SIN (Social Insurance Number) from you. You can get your SIN here.
2. Applying for Financial Assistance
Once you open a bank account, you can apply.
You can apply online here. To apply, click on the Apply online now button.
Along with personal data, you will need to enter:
- unique client identifier (UCI) – 8 or 10 digit number on the visa, work or study permit,
- document number IMM1442.
Check your personal and banking information before applying. Adults: Your IMM1442 name must match your bank account name. For children: The name of the bank account will be the name of the parents or legal guardians in Canada.
After submitting the application, you will receive a confirmation on the screen that the submission was successful, and a confirmation number. Save this number just in case.
The processing takes up to 5 business days on average. It may take another 3-5 days for the money to show up in your account. Funds for children will go to the parents' accounts.
