The temporary ban took effect today, July 13, at 9:00.

It is reported that the program was suspended due to a large influx of refugees, which exceeds the number of housing options available. However, the government guarantees support for those who have already arrived or will arrive in the near future.

“Due to the number of visa applications in which the Scottish Government is listed as a sponsor, increased by 21% from the previous week as of July 5, the number of visas issued increased by 27%, and the number of arrivals under the super sponsor scheme increased by 20%”, the government explains.

Note that 4,000 out of 7,000 refugees from Ukraine who arrived in Scotland have already received free housing under the “super sponsorship” program.
