Ukrainians in Poland will receive an electronic residence permit that allows them to travel within the EU

“Poland has notified the European Commission of an electronic document available for refugees from Ukraine –, as a document confirming their legal stay on the territory of Poland and allowing them to travel within the European Union, as well as to cross its external borders. This is the first fully digital residence permit in the European Union”

How to get a document?

To obtain a digital residence permit, a PESEL number is required. Next, you need to:

  • get an electronic signature in one of the local territorial offices to create an account;
  • download the mObywatel mobile application (Android | iOS) – follow the instructions in the application, enter your login and a password to activate the profile (you will receive them when applying for a PESEL number). Next, you will have access to the document;

What does the document give?

The electronic document is a digital residence permit that can be used together with a valid travel card document for crossing the external border of the EU. The document allows you to move around the Schengen area for 90 days within any 180-day period.
