The restoration project is on track to meet the December 2024 opening deadline set by President Emmanuel Macron shortly after the fire.

However, Minister of Culture Abdul-Malak noted that some renovation work will still continue in 2025. The reconstruction process only started in 2022, after two years of stabilization and security work for further construction work.

The authorities have decided to restore the 12th-century Gothic masterpiece Notre-Dame Cathedral to its original form, including rebuilding the 96-metre-high spire designed by architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in the 19th century.

It is expected that this year the iconic central part of the cathedral, which was destroyed during a fire, will reappear above the monument, symbolizing the revival of an architectural monument.

About 1000 workers are involved in the restoration work of the cathedral every day.
