The Department of Consular Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China said that visas for foreigners will again be issued, and embassies and consulates abroad will resume their work as usual.
Those with valid visas can also enter China. However, this applies to foreigners who received documents before March 28, 2020.
The changes are due to plans to revive the Chinese economy, which has fallen to one of the lowest levels in almost half a century.
“The resumption of applications for all types of visas removes another significant obstacle to the restoration of normal travel between the UK and China,” said Tom Simpson, director of the China-British Business Council.
As he said, business travel requests as well as arrivals in China have increased since January.
The goal is an even greater increase in visits, in particular for the purpose of tourism.
A visa-free regime has also been restored for foreigners from Hong Kong, Macau and those traveling on cruise ships. In addition, visa-free travel will resume for tourist groups from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the city of Guilin in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
The new rules will come into force on March 15.
